Immigrant of the week

Camila Cabello

One of the most famous pop singers of the moment is Camila Cabello, a former member of The X Factor group, Fifth Harmony. Arguably, the biggest hit of last summer was “Havana,” a tribute to her birthplace. This summer Cabello struck again with the song “Señorita” with her Canadian boyfriend, Shawn Mendes.

Although Cabello was born in Havana, she grew up moving back and forth between Mexico City where her father was born and raised. However, her family relocated to Miami when Cabello was five-years-old. She later became an American citizen in 2008. Cabello first starred on The X Factor but was eliminated during the “boot camp” portion of the show. However, she was called back to form a girl group with four other girls.

In 2017, Cabello broke out with her solo career and has been one of the most popular female pop singers in the past two years. Now, Camila Cabello has made music history with having the most streamed song by a lead female act on Spotify with “Havana.” Congrats Camila!
